Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzees and the Big Five

Rwanda is home to several national parks, each offering a unique experience: from trekking to see mountain gorillas and chimpanzees to classic safaris featuring lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, giraffes, crocodiles and other savanna wildlife, including hundreds of bird species. 

You can easily combine all the parks in a single trip. From Kigali, the country’s capital, it takes about 2–4 hours to reach any of them in a comfortable 4x4 vehicle. This means that even on a short safari, you can experience volcanoes, African savanna and tropical forests without tiring flights or long transfers.
