About Tanzania About Tanzania

Zanzibar City in Tanzania has been named the winner of the Travel Noire Awards 2025 in the category “Best International Vacation Destination.” The jury highlighted its pristine white-sand beaches, well-developed infrastructure, and rich cultural heritage.

One of the main attractions is Stone Town, the historic center of Zanzibar. It is known for its colonial architecture, narrow alleys, and bustling markets such as Forodhani Gardens, where visitors can enjoy local street food. Stone Town has been protected as a national heritage site since 1985 and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.

“The city’s fusion of Arab, Swahili, Indian, and European influences creates an atmosphere unlike any other destination in the world. At the same time, the warm, azure waters of the Indian Ocean are just minutes from the historic center”, – noted by Travel Noire.

The jury’s decision was also influenced by Zanzibar’s coastline, which offers beaches for swimming and kitesurfing, a wide selection of hotels and restaurants for every budget, and a strong transport infrastructure. The local international airport receives direct daily flights from major world capitals.

Zanzibar’s Minister of Tourism, Mudrick Soraga, called this victory an important milestone for East Africa, noting that tourism accounts for 30% of the region’s GDP. In 2024, the resorts welcomed 730,000 visitors, and by 2026, that number is expected to exceed 800,000. Such growth is made possible thanks to investments: the islands have already attracted $4.5 billion for the construction of new hotels, the modernization of airports, roads, and urban spaces.

The Roof of Africa and the Great Migration

Zanzibar is not the only destination in Tanzania attracting travelers. Visitors often combine their trip with going on a safari or climbing Kilimanjaro. For this, they head to the mainland, home to the famous Serengeti National Park, where one can witness the Great Migration, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with its massive volcanic crater full of wildlife, and Mount Kilimanjaro, which rises to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet).
