Rainfall is frequent, transforming parks into lush green landscapes. Very few travelers visit, so wildlife feels almost undisturbed. Perfect for enjoying private safari moments and discounted hotel rates.
Mostly dry with occasional rains, keeping the parks vibrant. Jan-Feb and early Dec see occasional showers, while March and June tend to be more stable. A great time with fewer travelers, relaxed pace and frequent wildlife encounters.
Dry conditions reveal the savanna’s full beauty, making game drives easy and wildlife visible. Expect lively safari experiences and spectacular predator sightings, though you’ll notice more travelers than in other months.
Itinerary
The group arrives at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO). Participants are met by a representative of Altezza Travel and transferred to a hotel in Arusha.
Note: Check-in starts at 2:00 PM.
Today your safari will take place in Tarangire National Park. This is one of the most interesting places in Tanzania! The river of the same name flows through the park, where giraffes, zebras, antelopes and buffaloes come to drink. These animals attract predators, which is why a lot of lions live in Tarangire. You will definitely see them during your trip.
In the dry season, the Tarangire River becomes the only source of drinking water for many kilometers around. Because of this, large herds of elephants come to Tarangire, making Tarangire the home to the largest population of elephants in Northern Tanzania for most of the year (especially June - October and December - March). Elephants are not at all intimidated by visitors to the park, and they often come quite close to cars. This is completely safe - since elephants have no enemies in their natural nature they are naturally curious and unafraid.
Tarangire National Park is also known for its ancient baobab trees. These massive trees are larger and older than any other park in continental Africa. The scenery, accented with these signatory trees is simply stunning.
Today you are heading to the legendary Ngorongoro Crater. We recommend starting the drive early, usually around 6:30–7:00 AM, depending on your lodge location. This allows you to enjoy the crater in the quieter morning hours before larger crowds arrive. The descent from the rim to the crater floor takes about 30 minutes, passing along the forested crater wall, while the spectacular panorama of the caldera gradually opens up below.
The crater formed about 2 million years ago when a massive volcano collapsed after a powerful eruption, creating one of the world’s largest intact volcanic calderas. Inside this ancient volcanic crater lives an extraordinary concentration of wildlife – one of the highest densities of animals anywhere in Africa.
Elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, lions, cheetahs, and zebras are commonly seen here, and the crater is also one of the few places where you might spot the endangered black rhino. Although animals can leave the caldera, most remain thanks to the abundant grasslands and reliable water sources. One animal you will not see here is the giraffe – their body structure makes it difficult for them to descend the steep crater walls. The crater forms part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its exceptional wildlife density and unique volcanic landscape.
For lunch, your guide will take you to a scenic picnic area near a Hippo Pool. This spot is popular with many birds, including kites that sometimes try to snatch food from the table, so it’s best not to leave meals unattended. The lake is also home to hippos, which often rest near the shore and surface regularly, offering great chances to observe them while you eat.
Please remember not to feed any animals in Ngorongoro or other parks in Tanzania. Human food can seriously harm wildlife and disrupt their natural diet. This is also strictly prohibited by park regulations, and anyone caught feeding animals may face a fine.
Today’s adventure takes you to the world-famous Serengeti, in the stunning Seronera area. The park is home to over 3 million animals and stretches across an area so vast it would take 2-3 days to cross by car, giving wildlife plenty of space to roam freely. Here, you’re almost guaranteed to see lions, antelopes, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and zebras, with a good chance of spotting cheetahs, serval cats, and other rare savannah animals. The Serengeti is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its unique ecosystem, dense wildlife, and the annual Great Migration. Life here inspired Disney’s Lion King, but unlike a cartoon, it’s raw, wild, and breathtaking.
Your adventure continues in the vibrant central Serengeti area. This vast landscape teems with wildlife, and it is impossible to view it all in one day. Today, your guide will lead you to new spots and highlight fascinating animals, giving you a broader view of the Serengeti’s richness. Seronera is home to some of Africa’s rarest species, including rhinos, leopards, serval cats, and caracals. Sometimes it can take several hours to spot a rare animal, but with a full day ahead, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to focus on the creatures you most want to find.
Rest in the hotel and transfer to the airport.
Note: Hotel check-out is at 10:00 AM. In case you need a late check-out before your evening flight, you have the option to extend your hotel stay for an extra fee. Let your manager know in advance if you need a late check-out.

Your tour with Altezza includes all the lodges and hotels listed in your itinerary, along with the meals mentioned in the program.
We take great care in choosing where you'll stay. Our team personally visits each lodge to ensure it meets our high standards for comfort, service, and food. We also pay close attention to location - so whether you're relaxing in your room or enjoying a meal at a hotel’s restaurant, you'll be surrounded by beautiful views and the atmosphere of the wild.
A few things to note:
- Accommodation is shared in twin/double rooms by default, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Single supplement is available upon request and at an extra cost. Please refer to your tour itinerary to see your accommodation arrangements.
- Tented lodges are the most common type of accommodation in savannah. Many of them work on solar energy. This sometimes means bucket showers, limited wi-fi and no hair dryers, all in an effort to reduce environmental impact. We encourage you to do some basic research on the accommodations in your program to ensure the safari matches your travel style.
Breakfasts and dinners are typically served at a lodge’s restaurant and can be a buffet-style or an a la carte menu, depending on the hotel or season.
Typically, on full-day safaris, you'll be provided with a picnic lunch box prepared by your lodge. These typically include a sandwich or wrap, chicken or vegetables, fresh fruit, a muffin or biscuit, juice, or sometimes a local snack - everything you need for a tasty and energizing break in the wild.

Best of all, switching to a special meal plan won't cost you a thing.
While you're out on safari, you'll enjoy bottled water, soft drinks, coffee and tea right in the jeep - perfect for keeping refreshed on game drives.
A few things to note:
- Arusha-based accommodations usually include breakfast only, unless requested and agreed otherwise - please check your tour itinerary for full meal details.
- Drinks like tea, coffee, and alcohol at safari lodges are usually ordered and paid for separately, unless stated otherwise. This way, you’re only paying for what you actually want.

We choose our guides with great care and offer the most competitive pay and full benefits in the region - so they can focus on giving you the adventure of a lifetime. All have at least a 5-year experience in guiding and are graduates of accredited wildlife or guiding colleges, trained in animal behavior, ecology, first aid, 4x4 driving, and guiding ethics.
All our guides are fully licensed by Tanzania’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (TANAPA), and must pass a strict selection process when hired by Altezza, including a more than a 2-hour exam with over a hundred specific questions on local wildlife, geography, and park regulations. Further on, each guide is tested “in the field” by our safari manager. To stay sharp, they also undergo regular refresher training at Altezza.
In addition to English and Swahili, our guides speak French, Spanish, or German. If you prefer a guide who speaks one of these languages, please let your travel expert know in advance, as availability is limited and this service is offered at an additional cost.
In our YouTube video here, you can learn more about our safari guides!
At Altezza, we make your safari experience smooth and worry-free by including all national park fees in the cost of your tour. Tanzania’s park fees system can be complex, with separate fees for park entry, conservation, and even additional concession fees for overnight stays within the parks. These fees vary depending on the park and the type of accommodation, making it a tricky process for travelers to navigate on their own.
With Altezza, you can be sure there are no surprising extra local payments. Our safari office specialists take care of all the details for you in advance, ensuring that every necessary fee is paid before the start of your adventure. This means no delays or paperwork at park entry points, allowing you to focus on what matters most: enjoying your time in Tanzania! Everything is covered, supporting both conservation efforts and the local communities that protect these extraordinary places.
When you book with Altezza Travel, your tour will be in the good hands of 200 dedicated professionals who are committed to ensuring that your tour is an amazing experience. Our team includes experts in reservation, transfer planning, expeditions, customer experience, logistics, and other areas, each responsible for their specific role in the process. We also have our hotel, store-keeping, transfer and other teams, whose contribution is essential and always available. They work together seamlessly to ensure that every aspect of your tour is carefully planned and executed to the highest standard.
The travel consultants team is available to assist you 24/7. You can easily reach out to your manager through various channels such as messengers, email, phone, or any other convenient method. We are always here to answer your questions and address any concerns you may have, and our support team works across different time zones.
Our safari packages include AMREF Flying Doctors air ambulance service by default. In the rare event of a medical emergency, you will have access to fast, efficient, and professional air transportation to the nearest hospital or medical facility. Should an emergency arise, we handle all necessary calls to the evacuation service, ensuring a swift response.
This service is particularly valuable when traveling in remote areas where direct access to medical assistance may be limited or unavailable.
Please note that while air transportation is fully covered, medical services at the hospital are not. These should be covered by the traveler individually or through their travel insurance provider.
Altezza Travel is the first adventure operator in Tanzania to develop its own travel planning software. With our new system, you no longer need to provide long lists of information via email. Instead, you can simply fill out the Personal Trip Board in the Altezza Family travel portal.
This user-friendly platform allows you to provide us with details about your arrival and departure information, dietary plan, insurance and passport information for the necessary permits. You can also use the form to inform us about any allergies or important medical information that we should be aware of before you start your adventure.
The security of your personal information is of utmost importance to our team. Our system is fully secure and uses SSL encryption provided by Cloudflare Inc, a leading provider of cloud security services worldwide. This means that all data transmitted through our system is fully encrypted and secure. Rest assured that only authorized personnel at Altezza Travel will have access to your data.
What's more, in your Personal Trip Board, you can customize your safari experience by adding extra snacks if you enjoy having something tasty on the go - on top of the standard soft drinks and water available in each Land Cruiser. Our Safari Snack Bar option lets you choose your favorite snacks before your trip, and our storage team will pass your order to your guide. On the first day of your safari, you'll find your personalized snack selection ready in the vehicle, so you can enjoy your treats while taking in the breathtaking scenery.
Unlike other companies where a sales manager acts as an intermediary between you and the local operations team in Tanzania, our system transmits your information directly to the dashboard of the person in charge. This direct communication line vastly minimizes the chance of human error.
For example, let's say you've indicated your arrival time in our system. In the past, your manager would have had to manually add it to our calendar, and our transfer manager would have had to assign a driver. With so many people arriving in Tanzania, there was always a risk of human error.
But with the new communication system, your arrival time information is instantly transmitted to the dashboard of our transfer manager. The system automatically assigns an available driver to your trip, and activates GPS tracking to monitor their progress. If the driver misses any check-points on the way, the system will alert the transfer manager to take corrective action and ensure that you're picked up on time.
We use similar streamlined communication flows for all our travel operations. For instance, all safari requests are processed through our software, which automatically assigns available guides and vehicles for your trip. Hotel reservations are verified by our system to make sure there are no discrepancies with your customized itinerary. Our safari managers then review and ensure that all data is correctly handled. Your dietary requirements are shared with our reservations office and safari lodges to ensure they are prepared to accommodate your individual needs or restrictions. With this system, you can be confident that every detail of your trip is taken care of and that there's zero risk of losing any critical information along the way.
What's more, our user-friendly system is designed to make travel planning fun and engaging. In addition to the intuitive interface, we've added a special feature that turns filling in the required information into a game. As you provide the necessary details for the organization of your trip, you'll receive pop-ups with interesting information about African animals. This way, you can learn more about the wildlife you'll be seeing during your adventure while completing the travel-related paperwork.
At Altezza Travel, we believe that travel planning should be easy, enjoyable, and informative. Our innovative system is just one of the many ways we strive to provide exceptional service to our clients.
When you choose Altezza Travel for your trip, you're making a meaningful contribution to the development of local communities in Tanzania. We're committed to sustainability, and as part of our pledge, we allocate a part of our profits to various social responsibility initiatives. Here are some examples:
- We're proud to be one of the first donors to the Serengeti De-snaring Project, a conservation initiative of the Frankfurt Zoological Society. The project is working to remove snares, traps, and other poaching devices from Tanzania's national parks.
- In 2023, we partnered with Nature Tanzania and invested over $12,000 to save the population of the Long-billed Tailorbird. A special conservation site has been established in the Amani Forest, where our team conducts extensive research and conservation operations. With fewer than 250 birds remaining, this species is considered 'critically endangered' by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and urgent action is needed to prevent their extinction.
- We donate $1,000 annually to the Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary. Black rhinos in Tanzania are critically endangered due to poaching. The Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary, along with the Moru Kopjes area in Serengeti National Park, are the only places where black rhinos are still present in critically low numbers. Mkomazi is home to the larger population, but it still needs support. One of the recent newborns at Mkomazi was named Altezza by the park staff, and we are proud to sponsor and care for this baby rhino!
- In response to the growing crisis of deforestation, we have undertaken several large-scale tree-planting efforts on the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro and in the surrounding areas. We are currently planning additional reforestation activities to further combat the issue.
- Altezza Travel is on a mission to improve the lives of students in the remote Materuni area. Over 50 local students have been attending a school with dilapidated classrooms, a leaking roof, and a lack of essential educational materials. The teachers have been doing their best to maintain a positive learning environment, but they are struggling with limited resources. That's where Altezza Travel stepped in. We began funding the renovation of the school, providing building materials, and supplying educational materials as well as sports equipment. Our goal is to create a brighter future for these children by providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed.
- Creating job opportunities is a powerful way to support local communities. We're proud that Altezza has become a sought-after employer for both experienced professionals and fresh graduates. As an equal opportunity employer, we celebrate Tanzania's diverse workforce, focusing on motivation and commitment when hiring for office positions, and welcoming fresh graduates and career-changers. To keep our team competitive, we provide ongoing training, personalized development plans, and access to industry-leading resources.
- We're committed to using local suppliers for all our operations and have made a deliberate decision to avoid large agricultural companies in favor of small farmers from the surrounding communities.
- Finally, on February 5, 2025, Altezza Travel earned the prestigious Travelife Certification - one of the highest international standards for sustainability in tourism. This isn’t just a badge - it confirms that our efforts in employee welfare, community support, and environmental conservation are real and measurable. To qualify, companies must meet over 160 strict criteria across operations, sustainability management, supplier relations, and guest communication. Altezza is also a member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, further underlining our dedication to responsible travel.
- International flights
Our safari packages don’t include international flights. You’ll be responsible for covering those costs separately. Feel free to contact your manager to get recommendations about the airlines operating flights to Tanzania.
- Tips to the safari guide
Tipping your guide is a common and appreciated gesture in the tourism world. While never required at Altezza Travel, we do encourage guests to tip their safari guides if you're happy with the service. A typical recommendation is $30-$50 per day per vehicle.
If your itinerary includes additional activities like nature walks, night game drives, or walking safaris, you may also consider tipping the park ranger or specialist guide who accompanies your group. A customary tip is $10-20 USD per group. These experts play an important role in enhancing your safari experience.
- Visa fee
Most nationals are required to pay USD 50 for a one-time, single-entry 90-day visa. USA nationals, however, are required to pay $100 for a multi-entry visa. Contact our travel advisors to learn more about Tanzania visa rules and requirements.
- Single supplement
Our safari tours include shared accommodation in a twin/double room by default. If you’d like to arrange a single room, please reach out to our travel experts in advance. Single accommodation can be booked at an extra cost and subject to availability.
- Travel insurance
Travel insurance is highly recommended for a safari - and in many cases, it’s required. There are no specific insurance policies just for safaris, but a good travel insurance plan should cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations or delays, and lost or delayed luggage. While our packages include air ambulance coverage through AMREF Flying Doctors, any hospital treatment and other associated costs should be covered either by your travel insurance or paid personally. Always check that your policy is valid in Tanzania.
