The journey begins in Serengeti, where endless plains stretch to the horizon and wildlife is everywhere. Mostly dry with occasional rains, keeping the parks vibrant. Jan-Feb and early Dec see occasional showers, while March and June tend to be more stable. A great time with fewer travelers, relaxed pace and frequent wildlife encounters.
Dry conditions reveal the savanna’s full beauty, making game drives easy and wildlife visible. Expect lively safari experiences and spectacular predator sightings, though you’ll notice more travelers than in other months.

Today’s adventure takes you to the world-famous Serengeti, in the stunning Seronera area. The park is home to over 3 million animals and stretches across an area so vast it would take 2-3 days to cross by car, giving wildlife plenty of space to roam freely. Here, you’re almost guaranteed to see lions, antelopes, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and zebras, with a good chance of spotting cheetahs, serval cats, and other rare savannah animals. The Serengeti is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its unique ecosystem, dense wildlife, and the annual Great Migration. Life here inspired Disney’s Lion King, but unlike a cartoon, it’s raw, wild, and breathtaking.
Your adventure continues in the vibrant central Serengeti area. This vast landscape teems with wildlife, and it is impossible to view it all in one day. Today, your guide will lead you to new spots and highlight fascinating animals, giving you a broader view of the Serengeti’s richness. Seronera is home to some of Africa’s rarest species, including rhinos, leopards, serval cats, and caracals. Sometimes it can take several hours to spot a rare animal, but with a full day ahead, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to focus on the creatures you most want to find.
Be ready to wake up early! Your hot air balloon ride begins at dawn. A car will pick you up at the hotel and take you to the pick-up point for your exciting air-adventure. The drive will take about an hour and there is a good chance you will see some unique and rare nocturnal animals along the way. They are most active just in the pre-dawn hours.
The weather is usually cool in the morning in the savannah, so be sure to wear a warm sweater or light jacket.
Upon arrival, you will see the hot air balloon be inflated and prepare for the flight. It is interesting to watch the process; how the hot air flow must be acutely adjusted to and the weight properly dispersed.
Once all preparations are complete, you and your group will “board” your vehicle - you will climb into the passenger basket of the balloon. At this time, the balloon will not be fully inflated with hot air and the basket will be horizontal. The large balloon will be lying on the side in the grass while everyone takes their place. Once you are all ready, the balloon team will straighten up the basket and the balloon will fill up and begin to rise.
Your flight will depend a great deal on the direction and strength of the wind, carrying you across the savannah for an unforgettable aerial safari. For the one and a half hour flight, you will see the beautiful scenery of the savannah and wild animals from a bird's eye view.
The balloon pilot will catch the necessary air currents and slowly direct the balloon to the landing point, about 10-12 kilometers from the launch site. After a smooth landing, you will enjoy a late picnic breakfast, complete with non-alcoholic champagne to toast the adventure! You will be given a special certificate to remember this safari balloon adventure by. Don't be shy to ask the pilot to pose for your pictures with him and the rest of the crew. Once you're done, your safari guide will pick you up, and you can choose either to continue your game-drive or head back to your hotel for some rest.
Time in сentral Serengeti is always full of surprises. Every day in the savannah brings something new – you’re unlikely to see the same scenes twice. Lions that seemed lazy yesterday may be active today, elephants that walked away before might come closer out of curiosity, and you never know what unexpected wildlife moment awaits. This is also a great opportunity to explore the famous kopjes – ancient volcanic rock formations that shape the beautiful Seronera landscape. Many animals like to rest in their shade, which creates wonderful photographic opportunities. You may also visit Simba Rock. It resembles the iconic scene from The Lion King, where Mufasa presents baby Simba to the savannah. Seeing this setting in real life adds a fun and memorable touch to your Serengeti experience!
After an exciting afternoon game drive, you will settle into a cozy spot outside your lodge with a view of the African savannah. As the sun sets, the sky bursts into vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples. Having a snack and a drink against this stunning backdrop is a perfect way to savor the moment! Please check the provided set of snacks & drinks with your travel expert.
Today, you'll embark on an unforgettable adventure: an airplane flight over the picturesque landscapes of Tanzania. If you'd like to have a short morning game-drive, we recommend that you have breakfast as early as possible — the guide will try to find exciting animal sightings on the way to the airstrip. Another option is to pack up without a rush, have breakfast and leave the lodge in time for your departure flight. You can choose what's best for you on the spot - the guide will accommodate your wish!
After the intensity of your Serengeti adventure, today offers a gentle pause before your next chapter in Mahale. It’s a chance to slow down and reset between two extraordinary wilderness experiences.
A lovely way to recharge would be a tour to the Arusha Coffee Lodge's coffee plantation and a delicious lunch at their garden restaurant. The theme of coffee permeates every corner of this charming retreat. On a short guided tour (1 to 1.5 hours), you’ll discover how coffee is grown, harvested, and transformed into the aromatic cup in your hands. It’s an easy, relaxed excursion - informative without being demanding.
After lunch, be sure to visit the nearby Shanga workshop. Here, talented artisans with disabilities create beautiful handcrafted items from recycled materials. It’s a wonderful opportunity to find meaningful souvenirs or unique jewelry - a small piece of Tanzania to bring home to friends and family.
The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. Tomorrow, Mahale awaits!
Today you arrive at Mahale airstrip and are transferred by boat across the waters of Lake Tanganyika to Greystoke Mahale inside the national park. Once at the lodge, enjoy a gentle afternoon exploring the lakeshore by canoe or boat, watching for African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, and even monitor lizards along the water’s edge. Keep an eye out for small mammals and colorful birdlife in the forest fringes near the lodge. Sundowners on the terrace or a quiet evening by the lake offer the perfect way to reflect on your first day in this stunning wilderness.
Your adventure begins with a chimpanzee trek led by expert guides. Follow the forest trails in search of playful chimpanzee troops, observing their grooming, social interactions, and curious behaviors. While tracking chimps, you may also spot red colobus monkeys, bushbucks, red duikers and an array of forest birds. The Mahale Mountains have been a focus of long-term chimpanzee research, providing unique insights into their social lives.
Chimp trekking in Mahale can be physically demanding, and the camp guide reserves the right to restrict participation if a guest is not fit enough and may slow down the group. Proper walking shoes or trekking boots are required. Only one chimp trek is offered per full day, usually in the morning. Time spent with the chimpanzees is strictly limited to one hour, while the trekking duration itself may vary depending on their location. Each group is limited to a maximum of six guests.
Today is another chance for chimpanzee trekking, perhaps discovering different troops or observing new behaviors. Wander through lush forest paths and marvel at ancient strangler figs, listen to the calls of forest birds, and watch for small mammals along the trails. Your guides may take you to hidden viewpoints or quiet clearings, offering extraordinary photo opportunities. After the trek, relax at the lodge, enjoying the peaceful surroundings and beautiful views over Lake Tanganyika.
Today marks the end of your time in Mahale as you depart by light aircraft to the next destination of your journey. The morning is yours to enjoy at a gentle pace - a relaxed breakfast, a quiet walk around the lodge, and a few last moments taking in the tropical forest. Take a closer look along the forest edge by the shoreline: primates are often visible in the foliage, including chimpanzees and red colobus monkeys, along with baboons, antelope, and a variety of hornbills and kingfishers.
When you’re ready, your guide will assist with your luggage and transfer you to the airstrip. It is recommended to arrive approximately one hour prior to departure. Flights from Mahale typically depart around midday.
Altezza driver will pick you up from your accommodations and take you to the airport. If you're flying out with an international flight, please be ready to leave the hotel 4 hours before the scheduled take-off. If you're taking a domestic flight, you'll need to leave 3 hours before the flight.
We wish you a pleasant flight!
