For the second consecutive year, Altezza Travel has been named Tanzania's Leading Tour Operator at the World Travel Awards. This continued recognition confirms our team’s steady performance and commitment to high standards in everything we do.
This year’s ceremony took place in Tanzania, in Dar es Salaam. The only other time Tanzania held the event was in 2016, when it took place in Zanzibar. Since then, the scale of the ceremony has grown. In 2016, 29 countries took part. This year, the number rose to 39. New participants included Burkina Faso, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Mali, Niger, São Tomé & Príncipe, South Sudan, and Eswatini.
The involvement of these countries demonstrates how tourism is expanding into new regions, including those that have faced challenges in the past. Across the continent, tourism continues to support development and conservation efforts.
What are the World Travel Awards?
The World Travel Awards were founded in 1993 and have become one of the most respected honors in the global travel industry. They recognize top-performing companies and organizations across many categories.
Known for their independence, the awards are a trusted indicator of quality and strong performance in the tourism industry.
How are the winners selected?
What sets this award apart is that it’s decided by travelers themselves, not by a panel of judges. It is one of the few industry recognitions based purely on guest feedback, making it a more direct reflection of service quality and overall experience.
Why has Altezza Travel won?
Based on the feedback we collect from our clients, we believe several factors led to Altezza being selected again:
A leader on Mt Kilimanjaro
Altezza Travel guides more climbers to the top of Kilimanjaro than any other operator. In 2024, over 5,000 of our clients reached the summit, accounting for 15% of all successful ascents that year. Each expedition is planned with a focus on safety, comfort, and care for the environment.
Signature Tanzania safaris
We organize private safaris tailored to each guest, from families to large travel groups. Our safari vehicles rank among the best in Tanzania, offering a seamless experience that combines comfort with reliability in the country’s national parks and reserves.
Dedicated technology team
We are the only travel company in Tanzania to have an in-house IT team. It has developed a custom system that simplifies travel planning. Tasks that used to take days can now be done in minutes, making the booking process faster and more personalized. Check out a sample itinerary to see how the system works in practice.
Consistently positive reviews
Altezza Travel has earned thousands of 5-star reviews on platforms like Trustpilot and TripAdvisor. This consistent positive feedback reflects our focus on guest satisfaction and likely contributed to our recognition at the World Travel Awards.
Impactful social responsibility initiatives
As a Tanzania-based company and a proud member of UN Tourism and a Travelife Certified operator, we dedicate a significant portion of our revenue to supporting local communities and protecting the environment around Mount Kilimanjaro.
For example, one of our recent projects involved installing fire safety containers in Kilimanjaro National Park. Introduced as part of the response to the devastating 2022 wildfires, this initiative has strengthened the park’s ability to manage future fires and protect its fragile ecosystem.
In Mkomazi National Park, we help care for a baby rhino, support the Serengeti de-snaring program, and contribute to reforestation efforts in the Kilimanjaro foothills and Rundugai, while in the Amani Forest, we participate in a birdlife restoration project. This work is ongoing and growing.
Finally, we have recently opened the region’s first private Kilimanjaro museum, giving visitors and locals a chance to explore the mountain’s history. The collection includes artifacts from expeditions dating back over a century, alongside items like prehistoric shark teeth, historic photographs of Tanzania, and rare books. The museum was initially created to help our mountain crews connect with the cultural heritage of Kilimanjaro, but it has since drawn interest from a wider audience. We plan to continue expanding the collection with new exhibits”.
